Loving Kindness “Metta”
Most effective when practiced daily, Metta invites us soften our hearts, to connect on a deeper level to ourselves and others, and to bring awareness to the loving kindness that exists in the world 🌎
Metta embraces all energy and all beings across the universe with no exceptions. It reminds us to be present and to cultivate positive thoughts and feelings to inspire change.
How to practice:
- Sit quietly in a comfortable position. Take deep breaths in while finding the alignment of your spine. Bring awareness to all parts of your body, one by one, starting at the crown of your head and moving all the way down to your toes. Let go of any thoughts about the past or future and focus your energy on what is happening right now. Stay with your breath.
- Start to tune in to your own body, mind and heart. Send love to yourself. Thank your body for being a vessel in which you can explore, learn, and create with. Develop a deep sense of gratitude for where you are in your life and how far you’ve come.
- Repeat the phrases below.
May I be safe from danger
May I live a happy and peaceful life
May I be healthy and strong
May I be free from suffering
- Now direct the energy outward, first to someone you love, then to someone you don’t love, then to all beings. Start to feel love and compassion forming in your heart 🌿❤️🌿 Repeat the phrases below.
May you be safe from danger
May you live a happy and peaceful life
May you enjoy strength, radiance, and health in your body
May you be free from internal and external suffering
(Repeat this 3 times: once to someone you love, once to someone you don’t love, and once to all being, replacing “you” with “all beings” for the last round)
Practicing this Metta meditation everyday will provide you with a deep sense of gratitude, compassion, and contentment.
