The result sucks, no doubt about that, but circumstantially, it shouldn’t be too surprising. While it made for a boring hockey game, gotta give credit where it’s due, the Wild were structurally sound, used their sticks very well, protected the slot, just really stuffed us out. That, combined with 1 big save and capitalizing on their chances at the other end, that’s the game right there. And I don’t mean to overlook this game at all, but the injuries are really becoming concerning. I’m not gonna complain about the Patrick injury because he’s been out all year, we’ve dealt with it, not the end of the world. Coots playing with an injured shoulder, lost Laughton for about a month but they got healthy, all good. Then Raffl gets hurt, solid depth but at least it should be replaceable. Then TK gets concussed, tied for the lead in goals, that’s concerning. Then we find out Lindblom has fucking cancer (
#OskarStrong ) so we’re down the other player who was tied for goals. A team that already had trouble scoring goals loses their two best goal scorers and are forced to dress an AHL 4th line, not good. As if things couldn’t get any worse, Pitlick and Laughton go down today. Not only were we down to 10 forwards, we have another game in less than 24 hours. If they can’t go are we even able to get guys there? Does the cap even permit us to do so? Gonna have to use an emergency callup? Like what the hell. Our depth is gone, our goal scorers are gone. All we have left is Coots, some highly paid vets who on the year have struggled a lot, a couple rooks and some AHLers. It’s really a give and take relationship with these hockey Gods. Finally get good goaltending and they decide to curse our forwards
