Well, it finally happened. My first true game of mortal gods! My partner, Roisin, and I lead our warriors to a ruined temple, a relic from the Persian wars, where we would battle to impress the Gods.
Roisin initially sent her slingers forward, the pebbles clanged off the helmets of my hoplites, the first injury was taken. My hoplites pushed forward with a roar of encouragement from my leader. The slingers, shaken, fell back. The fighting picked up as Roisin's hoplites countercharged. A bloody melee ensued to the south of the temple. My Peltasts dithered, the inefectually tried to attack Roisin's hoplites to the north. They were soon put to flight.
My hoplites to the south faltered as Roisin's ferocious leader charged. A dramatic duel ensued as my leader rose to the challenge and initially gained my side some ground. It was to be a short lived advantage. My leader, eventually, was surrounded and cut down. First taking an arm injury and then a fatal blow to the head. The battle was over, Roisin had won.... It was really fun to finally get to play a game. The mechanics were very logical and the cards really help when trying to keep track of what is going on. We had a little difficulty understanding some of the omens (I am no sage) but they did add a flavour of mystery to the game which was really exciting.
Surprisingly neither of us really took advantage of the temple I put together! Still, it acted as an atmospheric centrepiece!
Looking forward to the next game!!
