I love Bordeaux. (Then, who fucking doesn't, I suppose?) But while I've long favored the power and intensity of the Cabernet-predominant Left Bank, I've recently been drawn to the generally softer, smoother wines of the Right Bank, where #Merlot
is king. This 2016 @ChateauLassegue
Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, however, contains about twice as much #CabernetFranc
as what's typical of the Bank -- and boy, do I love me some Cab Franc. The exceptional '16 vintage was aged for 12 months in French oak, with rich black fruit (blackberry, plum), roses, and bittersweet chocolate on the nose. A chalky, yet steely minerality runs through the palate to the finish, which -- along with fresh fruit flavors -- will surely help keep the wine lively for many years to come.
I've got an album of the same vintage to go with it: Stage Four, the 2016 release from @ToucheAmore
Despite their use of "accent aigu," Touché Amoré aren't from France ("amoré" isn't even a real word; "amore" in Italian has no accent), but from Los Angeles, where the post-hardcore band recorded this album. Its title nods to the fact that it's the band's fourth full-length, and also to frontman @JeremyxBolm's mother, who sadly passed away from cancer at age 69 in 2014. It's one of those rare, gorgeously devastating works of art that thoughtfully strikes a perfect balance between melody, passion, and aggression, making it accessible to anyone willing to dip a toe into the "screamo" pool. Like the wine, its elegance and structure will ensure that it remains timeless.
