Warning, long and mushy post ahead... Tuesday marks the beginning of my 11th year in the classroom and 7th year on Prep. It’s amazing how fast the years tick by. Looking back over photos, my classroom has certainly come a long way since those pre-Insta/Pinterest days, before #teachersfollowteachers
or Kmart teacher hacks were even a thing 😂 I started off in year 4 before moving down to year 3, then 1/2 and eventually ended up in Prep where I’ve been fortunate enough to stay ever since. I won’t lie, some days are tough! Actually some weeks and even years are tough. Sometimes I go home and wonder if it’s all worth it. Whether I made the right decision in choosing to become a teacher. But I think we all do that. We all have that self-doubt. We all wonder if we’re enough, whether we’ve got enough in us to help shape little lives. I began my career working in some very disadvantaged schools and with some very high needs students. It was a case of ‘sink or swim,’ and I’m forever thankful for that experience, for the kids but most of all, for all of the amazing teachers who helped me along the way. Who made sure I didn’t sink. Who were a shoulder to cry on, a voice of reason and someone to vent with when everything seemed to be falling apart. So for all those teachers just starting out on their journey, my number 1 piece of advice. Find your teacher bestie. Surround yourself with people who make turning up for work everyday enjoyable. These people will guide you, they will support you and they’ll be your sunshine and happy place, even after the worlds worst day. 11 years, 4 different schools and I’m incredibly great full for all the amazing friendships along way. Teacher besties are for life ☺️ .
