I have an unusual discomfort for physical contact. I hate shaking hands with people, I hate hugging strangers and family who I am not close with, I don't really like getting kissed, I hate it when people touch any part of my face including my hair, I don't like crowded places at all, and having someone touch my thighs or shoulders freaks me out. It makes my body tense up and I feel like I instantly need a shower. I like distance but I have a hard time expressing that.
I have had trouble saying, "Please don't touch me like that," or "Do you mind scooting over a bit." It's not a lot to ask of someone but to me it feels evasive in a way. But I'm at a point where I'm starting not to care and have begun to speak up more for myself.
I've become better at keeping myself controlled with how disturbed I can get. But if there's ever a situation where I can be in complete control then know that I will be. Like with relationships.
And you should too.
Hold your head up high, close your eyes, and firmly say, "No." Say no to kissing.
To hand touches.
To peer pressure.
And to any other form of unwanted physical contact.
Don't make the mistake of adding, "Sorry," to your statement.
There is nothing to feel sorry about. Implement your boundaries without caring if people will judge you for them.
And if they step over or purposefully make you uncomfortable, drop them and phone the police if things get out of hand.
This is your body, your life, and your choices.
Don't change for any one.
Stand up for yourself at any cost 💜 (Beautiful art by: @joce_cova
