Mason here. I already talked about my dental problems. Now I’m going to talk about my feet problems.
The vet discovered I had sore hocks or pododermatitis, at the same time he found my dental problems. I have spots on the bottom of my feet where my fur is missing, the skin is inflamed, and there are some calluses.
They did a wound cleaning, opening up the sores on my feet, at the same time they took out my bottom front teeth. I woke up with these stupid bandages on my feet. Fortunately, I managed to get one bandage off on the car ride home, and the other shortly after arriving home. I don’t know why my human was so upset when I had a towel to sit on.
I’m including a picture of me right after I got home from surgery. Cornbread had been worried that I wouldn’t come home at all. She was surprised when I was left at the vets’ office overnight. I’m sitting on a towel on top of the litter box to protect my feet. The human didn’t know how to bandage me at that point.
Over the next month or so after surgery, my human kept taking me to the vet to put on bandages, and I kept pulling them off. Your feet have to breathe, you know.
For a while, my feet looked good. There’s a picture here from what I thought was my final vet visit.
After the second dental surgery, the vet noticed they were flaring up again. He almost did another major wound cleaning, but after I was sedated, the vet realized it wasn’t necessary.
Now my human is constantly putting on these stupid bandages. She’s also putting Mupirocin cream on my feet when she changes the bandages. I do my best to pull them off, but my human is making it more and more difficult. I have included a picture of what the bandages look like when they come off.
This is something I’ll probably have to battle the rest of my life. The main causes for me are probably hard floors, and the fact that I’m a big rabbit. (The vet says I’m not overweight. I’m just a big boy.) My human is working on getting more yoga pads and towels to sit on.
