Remember when your days were simpler, and all you had to do was get up, do some stuff, and then go back home to a world that doesn't involve so many other complicating factors, like people. People, mostly, are what would give you the most disappointment and hurt. Life has a funny way of teaching you lessons sometimes, serving up these lessons on silver platters, sometimes when you need it the most, or when it's the last thing on your mind.
The world takes a bite at you, eventually, sometime while you're still growing up. You can't remember exactly when it was when you lost your innocence and childlike faith in all things. It takes a bite at you, and chews you up whole. It drags you along, fast forward a few years, give or take, and you're an entirely new person. You don't even recognise yourself sometimes, and sometimes, you still look back fondly, reminiscing about those simpler times. The world has made you angry, sad, and jaded.
Every uncorrected misunderstanding, every failed opportunity to properly represent yourself, or to stand up to people who were pushing you in more ways than one chipped away at your soul, and your heart. You've long kept what was left of it somewhere deep inside you, and made use of these newfound monsters to keep them safe. Unfortunately, for the wanderers that do come and try to find these best, preserved parts of you, they have to get through these monsters. The new you- the monster that the world has had you become just so you don't sink too quickly.
It doesn't take long before it all starts to make sense, because the wrong people will fall though the cracks all too easily. You used to think that you could and would never know who are the right people. There are no right people- there is only you, and the one person that allows you to be you, monsters and all, and still decides to venture further into the darkness and make themself a home there, by choice.
