It’s easy to get too comfortable at the gym. You know... run a couple miles at a comfortable pace, lift a few weights till you get bored, go on your phone in between sets, do a few machines, and call it a day. While I try to push myself until I work up a good sweat and until near failure on weights, I’ve been too comfortable with the amount of weight I’ve been lifting lately. Aside from deadlifting (I hit my new PR the other day there!), I’ve been staying at the same weight in all my lifts. 165-185lbs on squats, 145-160lbs on hip thrusts, etc. And, I haven’t been able to bench press in months due to potential tendinitis in my wrist, so I’m hanging around 30-35lbs using dumbbells for chest press. I got a little surge of motivation to start pushing myself harder at the gym last sesh, though, when I saw a girl next to me hip thrusting >300lbs 😱 maybe it’s the competitiveness in me, but this was the little nudge I needed to start adding more weight! I know I CAN lift more. And even though high reps to near failure has its purpose, so do the heavy weight low rep days! I’m looking forward to approaching my workouts with more focus and determination these coming weeks. Let’s get it! 🏋🏼♀️
