I took this photo of BOZ SCAGGS on what was a massive day for me. From around 10am on Saturday 25th February, 1978 I was in the heart of Brisbane city (Adelaide St near the corner of George St) to catch a glimpse of American teen idol LEIF GARRET who was making a public appearance for one of the local radio stations. So many people turned up that the best they could do was have him wave at us from the balcony of one of the buildings across the road from the originally advertised location. I did get a couple of photos of him though.
After that I headed down to the Brisbane Botanic Gardens for a free concert featuring the following artists:
Able Magwitch (local band)
Feather (with Stuart Fraser, Warwick Fraser & John Swan on vocals)
Leif Garrett (non-singing appearance)
I was almost injured in the crush for the stage when LEIF GARRETT walked on stage. I found myself on the ground huddled over my camera gear to keep it safe. With people falling on top of me I was very nearly impaled on the telephoto lens of my camera. I don't think I even saw more than a brief glimpse of Leif before all hell broke loose.
Once that concert was done I went off to grab a quick snack and then walked up to Festival Hall to see New Zealand band DRAGON (with Marc Hunter on vocals) and of course the main act, BOZ SCAGGS which is where I took this photo. ....... Yep, it was a big day alright. .... and the concert ticket price was AUD $11.50.
Festival Hall Address: Corner of Albert Street & Charlotte Street, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
