After the success of Venezuela, James David Jackson, Josh Sherman and Joe Powell invited me to become the first non-founding member of their company, Impetuos Theater Group. We became the resident theater company of Center Stage NY (former home of LAByrinth Theater Company) and I began to explore every facet of developing and creating dramatic art. I produced, stage managed, directed, assistant directed, created a literary department, wrote grants, acted and fulfilled pretty much every crew position. ▪️
▪️ Impetuous gave me a home in my early twenties, offering community and structure while I navigated an early career of unemployment and rejection. Impetuous was the backdrop (or wallpaper) that made the city and the struggle palatable. ▪️

Impetuous’ most successful series was a playwriting festival called 47:59: Writing In Rotation where writers and actors stayed up all night to write and perform a one act in 24 hours. Then, the writers would trade and write the second act of someone else’s play to be presented during the following 24 hours. To this day, every time I pull an all-nighter on a project (which is too frequent) I think back to this annual festival and the laughs and learning curves of being the “kid” in the room.
