from the 2019 holidays featuring my friend Equinox (aka Nox) the German Shepherd. When we first got to know each other Nox didn't care for me. In fact, anyone but his chosen human counterpart was not to be trusted, no matter the species - and if Nox didn't appreciate your presence around him, you heard about it.
Over time, we became friends (though he remained somewhat dubious for a while) and he reached an understanding with a number of people and dogs, as long as they didn't get between he and his mum. Then last year they moved away and we wondered how Nox would do with so much change... turns out, the answer is AWESOMELY! He really enjoys living in a place where leash laws are respected and where his muzzle isn't something to gawk at. He's made human and canine friends alike and it's been marvelous to hear of his social successes. We got to go for a couple of offleash walks all together in December and dogs and humans alike had a grand time - plus we ran into numerous unknown people and dogs without incident, which would have sounded impossible a few years ago.
Nox and his mum/boss/coach/best friend put in a lot of time and patience to get to this point, and their success so far is the product of all that perseverance. It wasn't easy and there were (and still are) no guarantees, but Nox's learned social graces seem to be sticking 🤗
