Day 13 - New Years Day
I would have enjoyed a bit more of a sleep in being New Years Day but no luck I got up at 8.30am and went down for a little breakie, wasn't great but ok, hungover me needed it. Then went back up and laid in bed for a little longer until we had to get ready. We had Loony Dook this afternoon and wanted to do Edinburgh Castle before we left. The Castle is the highest point in the city so you can imagine the hills we climbed to get there, my calfs hated me! We got to the Castle at about 11am and the views were beautiful you could see over the entire city and even out to the water. The Castle was bigger than we anticipated and we missed a little bit and rushed some too which was a shame but it's a reason to go back! They have such good displays there from the prisoners that were kept there to the royalty that lived there and it even had the Scottish Crown Jewels on displayed which was incredible to see, can't take photos unfortunately. They have a gun/cannon thing that they set off at 1pm everyday, except Sundays, and have done for over 100 years, its used as a signal for the boats in the dock, we weren't at the Castle when it went off but we heard it still! We got the bus to Queensferry at 1pm for Loony Dook but the bus was late and we missed the check in time and were worried we'd miss out on going in the water but thankfully when we got to the check in spot people were still going through and we got in!!! @vornygreen
and Pearl pussied out so just watched but @conbogs
(I think he only did it because I so badly wanted to) and I went, excitedly, into the awaiting crowd. We walked the parade in our little matching costume supplied by Vorny and saw so many good outfits! At the end of the parade you run into the freezing water of what is essentially the North Sea!! I was nervous at how cold it would be and seriously wondered if I'd be an iceblock when I came out but was also super excited. I had all intentions of just jumping full on into the water BUT as soon as my pinky toe hit the freezing water I backed out of that idea 😂 we both went up to about 1/2 way up our shins, stood for about 4 seconds then ran out...
