I updated one of our best selling tops for 2020 🤓 the VERA will have a longer under bust panel, why did I do this and what does that even mean, you say?⠀ ⠀ If you’ve bought the VERA in previous collections the only difference will in the back. I did this because it actually adds a subtly crucial amount of extra support and is even more flattering. Instead of having a completely exposed back with straps sometimes hitting in unflattering places and boobs that sometimes slide out of the center of your top, we did away with all this just by adding a little extra fabric in all the right places 🕊⠀ ⠀ 👙 VERA top + GIA bottom in bone

10 weeks vs 21 weeks. It took me awhile to make peace with this but I’m not too concerned with how much weight I gain or how many stretch marks I get. Too often, pregnant and postpartum women put too much pressure on themselves to “prevent stretch marks” and to “get their body back”. All the focus is on the physical health and not on their mental health. Throughout the next few months, focusing on where I am mentally. Although I’d like to stay as physically healthy as possible, all of that means nothing if I’m not well mentally. 💪

So aside from my Casper legs… I love this picture. I have lost another inch off of my thighs so easily. I know many of you have seen my posts, and some may or may not approve. However, I am happy. I am thrilled! I am also a well educated physical therapy clinician and trainer who specializes in the pregnancy and postpartum populations now. I am doing this in a healthy way. No my goal is not to lose weight, but if I can be healthier, stronger and more fit? Absolutely! There is so much stigma about pregnant women exercising. Part of my new passion is bulldozing that stigma and the stereotypes. Sure, each person is different and there are certain situations were medical complications play a role in things. However, I am one of those people who experience medical complications and I’m still winning. This mama is strong and if I can help others realize their potential… then I’m winning again. A few weeks (months) back, when I shared we had a colicky baby, @hnienhueser reached out and sent me a few blends of essential oils. One for a calm baby, one of support for her tummy and one for me. Breathe || These past few weeks have been challenging, both physically and emotionally. Between the false contractions that stir up digestive pains and a few trials that have risen to the surface, I've had very little energy to even think about working out and focusing on my nutrition. • But this is where grace comes in. This is me, tired, overwhelmed and hormonal, with a stain on the front of my shirt from something and no energy to smile, but filled with grace and a renewed spirit to face this season. Even on the hard days (and seasons that seem to last a lifetime), make time for yourself and breathe. • Last week, I sampled a new Barre workout, which, if you've never heard of Barre, is like ballet for adults but with more high-intensity moves that challenge your core, balance, strength, and flexibility. How many lbs have you gained during pregnancy?! It’s suggested that women gain anywhere between 25-35lbs by full term, HOWEVER, that seems to be changing as time goes on. I have gained 30lbs at 32 weeks pregnant. I started freaking out & brought it up to my OB. She told me EVERYONE is different & not to pay such close attention to those “magic” numbers. Between extra stored fat, amniotic fluid, & baby’s weight...these ALL play a factor in how much weight you gain. These variables are drastic! I guess what I’m trying to say is, DO NOT worry if you have gained more, less, whateverrrr. Soooo...I did this workout on Wednesday. Still majorly sore today (Friday). 😂😆It's funny how bodyweight squats, lunges, and 20# deadlifts can do that to ya. . It's okay to start back at square one. It's scary- but it's okay. . A lot of mamas that value working out can get nervous to modify or stop doing certain movements in their pregnancies because they're scared to "lose it." Lose the skill. Lose the strength. Lose the speed. Lose the fitness. I get it- I was (am) there, too! But is it that bad to start back over? It doesn't mean the skill, strength, speed, fitness levels are never there anymore...it just means we have to go through the process again. It just means we're human. It just means that fitness, strength, health sometimes is not really linear, but rather an up and down process and journey. . Are you in a place where you're starting back over? 100 workouts: DONE. All while 🤰🏻 I wasn’t sure I wanted to do this program. I was so excited because I was up to the challenge but when I found out I was pregnant and then I started feeling horrible, I just wanted to finish the program I was working on and then curl up into a ball and fast forward 9 months. I felt horrible. But I also wanted to have my healthiest pregnancy. So I jumped in. I knew that if I didn’t just do it, I would regret it. And you know what I found? My workout was one of the best parts of my day. It was one of the only times I didn’t feel sick. It was one of the only times I had energy. It was one of the only times I felt like myself. So it became a necessity in addition to my usual routine. While my body changed, my weights did too. I’m not good at slowing down, but being pregnant forced me to listen to my body and go at a pace that was good, not just for me, but for our growing baby. I found challenge and satisfaction in lifting lighter weights. I followed the modifiers or found other ways to modify while still finding opportunities to keep up the intensity. I looked forward to my morning workouts, had the energy I needed to get them in every time and felt good post-workout. Then the morning sickness finally subsided and I started having a ton of energy (said no pregnant woman ever!). The workouts helped keep me in line, but also helped me cope with #gestationaldiabetes . I have never felt so good in pregnancy and I know it’s because of my commitment to this program, to completing 100 workouts, and to being mindful that taking it ONE. WORKOUT. AT. A. TIME. would get me to today. And I’m so excited to do it all again. I want to do it with increasingly heavier weights, no modifications, the way it was originally designed. I wanna do all the pushups 💪🏼 and burpee bolts ⚡️ and badass jumps 🤘🏼 and core infernos 🔥. I want to challenge myself and find out what my new post-partem body will be willing to do. Gah! In a little over a month I have lost an additional inch on my thighs. This stuff WORKS! Stability Ball Hamstring Curls: I often find my clients quad dominant. Meaning their quads are much stronger than their hamstrings. This can put them at an ⬆️ risk of injury due to muscle imbalances . . ☑️ Targets Hamstrings Primarily . ☑️ Important for walking, running, jumping & climbing stairs . ☑️ Important when you suddenly stop & change direction while running or land after a jump . ☑️ Quad dominance can lead to knee, hip or back pain . ☑️ Practice bridging on the ball first and ensure you have stability . . So much conflicting information out there, so much click bait to scare women and make them feel dependent on a trainer or physio. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Often the picture is painted that a Diastasis Recti automatically means a dysfunctional core and pelvic floor and that it is likely the cause of lower back pain. This claim is not supported by valid and reliable research! One can most certainly build a highly functional core even with abdominal separation. The fact one can stick two fingers between the walls does not automatically mean the mom is in any kind of trouble. She too can learn how to generate tension across her entire core and use this function to support her daily and fitness related movements. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What is also interesting to note is that close to 0% of women are able to answer whether they have a diastasis or not and they wouldn't know how to check themselves. Others were told by their doctors they are pretty much screwed. When I then take a look at their tummies, they have minimal separation in passive, active positions as well as during movement. ⁣ Scar tissue from your c-section can cause pain, tightness & dysfunction in your core and pelvic floor. ⁣ ⁣ Scar tissue massage is very effective in preventing & helping this issue. ⁣ ⁣ Light massage over the incision may be started as soon as the incision is fully healed, even a few weeks postpartum. ⁣ ⁣ Deeper massage & lifting of the skin may be started after 12 weeks in order to begin breaking down that scar tissue.⁣ ⁣ 1. Begin lifting the scar between your fingers and work your way along the scar ⁣ ⁣ 2. Pinch scar & lift up and down, holding the stretch for a few seconds in each direction⁣ ⁣ 3. Pinch scar with both hands and lift up & down (hands in opposite direction) moving in a diagonal manner ⁣ ⁣ 4. Press deep into the scar and perform circles, work your way along the scar ⁣ ⁣ Perform for 3-5 minutes a few nights a week before you go to bed. ⁣ ⁣ This is great for all moms who have had c-sections. • 24 WEEKS BUMPDATE • - - I asked in my stories what you’d like to see about my pregnancy journey & #bumpupdates or “bump dates” was what most answered 🤗 - so here ya go! - - baby is the size of a pomegranate, he’s about 11.5 in long, & weighs about a pound. he has eyelashes, eyebrows, & hair now 👶🏽. he can hear pretty well so we’re going to start reading him books - i have to admit i need to get better about talking to him. he doesn’t move a lot so sometimes i forget he’s there 😂. let’s just blame the pregnancy brain for that! - - we had our 24 week check up on wednesday, my stomach is measuring about 25cm. i’m a little bigger than most at this stage 🤷🏽‍♀️, also up 20 lbs 😱 it happened so fast 😆 i don’t think it’s all my belly either 🥥🥥😒. but it could be, i was a pretty big baby, almost 9lbs (my brother was almost 10). Josh was 5.5lbs, I’m hoping we land somewhere in the middle - what do y’all think⁉️👀 - - There were some other great questions about pregnancy that I’ll be answering in either posts or on my stories.
