I consider myself supremely lucky and grateful that I’ve had a number of people reach out in the last few days to tell me I motivate them or that I’ve inspired them to get in the gym or push themselves harder in training.
I haven’t talked to them directly, it’s mostly from what I’ve posted in my social media. Well, I mostly share successes and that’s not what training, or indeed life, is all about. It’s about the failures, or lack of successes (however you want to frame it) that you build on...to make you successful.
I video everything now, something I’ve learned, that helps me not only review form but also record poundages. But today, posting isn’t about how much I did or didn’t lift, rather it was about capturing this moment (for the record, I was pushing for a PR and didn’t get it and the whole workout was a struggle). One I have a lot when I’m working out and doubt creeps in.
That moment, when things aren't going to plan, I'm so tired I can't see straight, I'm struggling and I take a deep breath, focus and talk to myself. When I tell myself to “Ranger up” and get it done. One more rep, one more set, one more step - try, try, try. I have these discussions with myself all the time. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t. We all struggle, we all want to be our best. I am not immune. Honestly, the point isn’t these moments...it’s getting through these moments and being better.
But. You show up and get it done. Then try again tomorrow. I’ll get after it tomorrow! You got this. We got this. Keep fighting, keep pushing. It's worth it.
