Can YOU spot a difference?
These pictures were taken 2.5 years apart.
My husband and I look pretty similar. He has on the exact same shirt for crying out loud 🤣🤣🤣
My kids look more grown up 💗
But other than that, there isn’t much VISIBLE difference. 👀
HOWEVER, there is a LOT that’s different mentally. 🧠
The girl on the left was still figuring out how to love herself and her body. She found eating Intuitive Eating and was learning how to stop obsessing over food. She still relied on external measures to tell her “healthy” she was (aka the scale, body measurements, and Fitbits)
The girl on the right has learned how to take care of herself and love herself on a deep level. She found freedom from food obsession and feels peaceful around food. She learned that numbers such as weight, body measurements, and Fitbit steps DON’T EQUAL HEALTH!
Every single day, I would look at my Fitbit as a measurement of how well I did that day. Did I get 10,000 steps or was I a FAILURE that day? When I would feel the buzz on my arm from meeting my step goal, it validated my health and my worth. And when the number was just shy of 10,000, I would stay up late at night running in place by my bed 😱 WHAT?!? It’s insane to me that I wouldn’t let myself sleep until I met this number. If I was no where close to my goal, I would feel lazy, ashamed, and depressed.
Since then, we have learned that 10,000 steps IS JUST A MADE UP NUMBER.
In 1965, the Japanese began selling pedometers and gave them a name that meant “The 10,000 step meter”. This name was chosen because the Japanese character for 10,000 looks like a man walking. Researchers have found NO validation of that number to greater health. [American Council on Science]
Can you believe that?!?? 🤯🤯🤯
We place so much emphasis on a MADE UP NUMBER?
GET RID OF YOUR FITBIT!
Turn off the steps tracker on your Apple Watch.
Stop letting this made up number control how you feel about yourself, your day, and your health.
Now, I have a regular watch that just tells the good ol’ time 🤣
