Dolphin kiss #flashback
My four year old niece had me do this. It was her dream to swim with dolphins but, as it turned out, she was just a bit too small. She was crushed and insisted I do it in her stead. Honestly, I wouldn't have done it otherwise. Still, it was an amazing experience but these sentient beings don't belong in cages for our entertainment.
For the record, they named this one 'sea princess'
My sister had been diagnosed with cancer 6 months earlier. She underwent months of chemotherapy and we took this family vacation just after its completion. We'd assumed it was ovarian cancer but it was actually a far less forgiving appendiceal variety. She did not confide knowlege of this with any of us. Instead, we enjoyed this beautiful vacation celebrating what would amount to a very successful round of treatment. My sister would be cancer-free for eight years before she relapsed. It was then she informed us all of the original diagnosis (with a prognosis of death within 6 months). I'd like to think this vacation, the beginning of 8 years of positivity, was a big part of the reason my sister beat the odds by so much. Laura-Lynne graduated the top of her class of 250 as a registered nurse. She went on to study psychology at the same school, UBC. She was a bit of a trail-blazer, writing her Master's dissertation on workplace equality. She graduated with an Ed.D. in clinical psychology and had her own practice nearby on West Broadway, Vancouver.
As an aside, I was in South Africa two months ago and had hoped to swim with Great White Sharks. Sadly, the experience was not to be (due to poor sea conditions). The difference between these 'swims' was that I was going to be in the cage and the sharks would be free.
