As some of you have correctly guessed, the theme for Maya’s 5th bday party was High Tea. I received a few guesses for Alice in Wonderland. I am going to definitely explore that one for a future party. Thank you for that idea 🙂.
When I started researching for inspiration for Maya's tea party, I came across a lot of antique tea carts on Pinterest and fell in love with them. I tried to find one but didn’t like anything on the market and none were within my (low) budget. So I decided to buy an old one and finish it myself to have that vintage look. So there I went with another case of my “create extra work” according to my hubby 🤷🏽♀️.
I found an antique tea cart made of pure walnut wood for a nominal price on Kijiji and chose @anniesloanhome
Chalk Paint which would be easy to work with and no sanding required. I went to Georgetown to @diniandco
to buy the chalk paint and all the supplies. They were super helpful and walked me through the painting process.
Then I spent several hours on a cold (I mean frrreeezing) February weekend in the garage painting 3 coats of the chalk paint to get myself a beautiful vintage tea cart :)
Had I known that I would share my experience on social media a year later, I would’ve taken better photos in my garage. Oh well, hope this inspires you to take on a craft project in the future. If I can do it, so can you! I had never painted anything in my life before!
