I guess I’ve made it no secret that I love the rain. When I was a kid, (if it was not lightning) I’d go exploring almost every time it rained in the Villages of Homestead. Little walking catfish would end up in our cul-de- sac from the canal across the street. Today, there was a thunderstorm. So, there was no walking, no adventuring out. Just a little painting and a whole lot of resting on my comfy bed with puppies, and biggysmalls, and layers and layers of covers. So... More painting tomorrow.
Re: the first two images: I don’t have an actual memory of this birthday, but I can hear my dad stomping his foot and clapping as I strum. :) As I was going through these pictures tonight, I noticed that I was usually either alone, with my mom, or with DeeDee. Every birthday was special with DeeDee around. She’d stir up some sort of adventure Usually horseback riding. She’d let me ride the bigger black horse and she’d ride Sugarfoot. I remember one time we went out, my saddle was loose. It was like something out of a cartoon. The whole saddle and I started slipping sideways while we were galloping. I imagined myself upside down beneath the horse’s belly as I was screaming her name. She rode up beside me and saved me, of course. That same day we were riding down the road. There was a bush in front of me. I didn’t know what to do. Jump it? Move around it? As I remember it, I tried a little of both and we ended up smack dab in the middle of said bush. Just stuck there. 🤦♀️
What else? For my 12th birthday, (she was taking gliding lessons at the time) she had her instructor bring me up in the glider and then She and I took a ride in the bi-plane. (Keep scrolling through the pictures to the end, if you haven’t already. You’ll see a giddy 12 year old Andi.) You can’t make this stuff up. I thought I was #ameliaearhart
. Childhood, though rough, was also filled with quality time and some of the richest, most magnificent, and enduring experiences anyone could hope for.
DeeDee usually never called me by name. She’d say “I have the baby with me” when we’d go for a drive. Come to think of it, I’m pretty sure she still calls me that. Even now. #ukulelebirthday #yellowpapercrown
