Shrednado challenge revised from a year ago and crushed. This week, I learned about how important rest and recovery is. Not just physically but mentally as well. With the Around The Bay race training, weight training it has lately left me super tired. While bad habits are easy to fall back into, I vowed I wouldn't go back to my old ways.
To the man who approached my trainer and I, and commended me for my hard work I want to Say THANK YOU for lighting the fire under my butt when I needed it. Throughout my journey, I've had people at my gym approach me and tell me I look great, they've been watching me and saying the nicest things to me, and even the fittest of people have been commending me at the gym. This has made me feel motivated even when I've had a bad day, even when I didn't have a reason to show up, even when I was mentally just not in it. Compliments and kind words always usually make my day.
I remember when I first started, I was scared, lost, was unsure of what to do, and I was uncomfortable. I had to learn how to overcome that, and the sensory issues that came with the gym.
Years ago, I had a HORRIBLE experience at a big box gym and I thought it was going to be like that again. I was wrong. It did take me some time to get used to a routine, making it a habit to go to the gym and to love going there.
Remember that mental health is just as important as physical health. Never be afraid to do what you need to do to take care of your mental health but never lose focus on progress and what got you this far.
Moral of the story, when you see someone new at the gym make them feel welcome. If you watch them struggling offer to help them or show them what you know. If you notice someone at the gym making progress and their transformation, tell them as that could be the thing they need to hear the most.
I know this is a long post, but I hope this sheds light on my experiences at the gym an how grateful I am for wonderful people.
