Dial 02 Carsten Jost - „Elmenreich“ (2000) was my first full release after a one track contributed to #Dial
In the year 2000 I did not have my own Computer yet and produced these tracks on the PC of my roommate the filmmaker and artist Susanne Winterling.
At the time I was only working with two rather basic pieces of production software: Sonic Foundry’s #SoundForge
to record and edit sounds and #Acid
for arrangements. There were no software synths yet (the computers back then couldn’t have handled them probably anyways) so I had to sample every bassdrum, hi-hat and whatever sound from records or CDs.
Elmenreich was the name of the street we lived on (named after Franziska Elmenreich who was a legendary theater actress). One track on the record (J.B.) was dedicated to the first boy I was ever really in love with (a quite sad ordeal of a secret shame loaded affair in the end for both of us that caused plenty of heartache which I guess was helping with making more music).
The drawing on the label was made by the artist Christian Flamm who I asked for a portrait that depicts me with a bleeding nose as an illustration of my bruised state. #dial2020 #dialrecords #debut #elmenreich #hamburg #firstlove #carstenjost
