I have mixed feelings about this particular shot...I had the perfect one 4 hours earlier, with a completely clear sky, and beautiful twinkling stars so clear, it totally worked with this being an observatory... However, there was some sort of event going on, so bright lights shone out of all the windows, and there was a big white van in front of this angle, a bike, and a few people milling outside. I decided that I would come back later to retake it...but at around midnight, the clouds started rolling in, and by the time I got back up here at 1.30am the gorgeous stars had all but disappeared.
I took this anyway. With the long shutter it needed, I am still pleased at how it can look, and vowed to come back on another night if I am back in Bristol, (and if the elements work in my favour...🙏🙏) It is a really lovely looking building, in an easy setting to photograph, so it will be a pleasure to come back.
If you are around, do go visit, I was reading it has a camera obscura, a cave that leads out to a viewing platform overlooking the suspension bridge, and a pleasant walk all around with further views of the gorge and bridge!
